Belgian First Division: Charleroi vs Cercle Brugge

Cercle Brugge have piled further misery on bottom-placed Belgian side Charleroi with a 3-0 away defeat in Wednesday’s replayed match.
The two First Division sides were originally set to meet in early December, though that match was cancelled due to poor weather.Afterwards, the Belgian Football Association ruled that Charleroi had been negligent in not protecting their field adequately against snow and ice, called the match a ‘forfeit’ and awarded it 5-0 to Brugge.Charleroi appealed to the Belgian Commission of Arbitration, who ruled in their favour and ordered the FA to hold a replay of the game. But with the regular season over and Charleroi assured of finishing last on the table, the unmotivated hosts played without spirit and ended their campaign on an even lower note.Bernt Evens opened the scoring with a header in the 21st minute after taking advantage of a botched Charleroi clearance, and Dominic Foley made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Naim Aarab was cautioned for a foul in the area in the 51st minute.Aarab was sent off following his second yellow card 10 minutes later, and Frederik Boi added further insult to injury with an 84th-minute sealer for the visitors. The win assures Brugge of finishing ninth on the table and joining Group A in the Europa League play-offs, while Charleroi will face AS Eupen in the relegation play-off.
