Roger Federer will return to the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time since 2009, with the Swiss announcing a slight 2011 schedule change on his Faceook page.
"I have just decided to enter Monte Carlo. Hopefully I will see some of you in Monaco in the spring," the Swiss wrote prior to his start at the Indian Wells event which begins the Masters 1000 campaign.
Federer has never won the clay title in the principality at an event dominated for the last six years by king of clay Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard beat his rival for titles in 2006-2008.
Federer's last appearance at the most glamorous stop on the ATP came two years ago, when he lost in the third round against good friend and this week's Indian Wells doubles partner Stan Wawrinka.
That match was played only days after Federer's wedding to Mirka Vavrinec, his longtime girlfriend when the Federer thoughts may have understandably been somewhere else than totally on the tennis court.
